WisDOT has several programs to make traveling in greater Milwaukee efficient and safe during these exciting events. Use these programs and technologies to help plan your route.

Current traveler information

Learn about congestion, delays and construction before you leave. MONITOR is a computerized system that collects data through the use of electronic detectors, closed circuit television cameras, ramp meters and variable message signs. These programs help to advise motorists of congestion, delays and construction. Use these tools to plan your route to work, home or vacation destinations.

Technologies include:

  • Camera images
  • Travel times
  • Congestion maps
  • Lane and ramp closure data
  • Weather information

Visit WisDOT's traveler information page to plan your trip.

Transit opportunities

Visit the Milwaukee County Transit System's (MCTS) Web site for route, fare and schedule information.

Visit the Amtrak Web site to make additional travel arrangements.

Park and rides

Meet your party at one of the area park and ride facilities and take one vehicle to your destination. Visit the park and ride page to find a facility near you.

Traffic Operations Center (TOC)

TOC operators partner with special events staff to manage traffic on the freeway system. The TOC coordinates the freeway lane and ramp closures in the metro Milwaukee area, including construction projects and county maintenance work.

Operators work closely with the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Department, county officials, and the news media (television, radio and other media outlets) to provide current traffic information to the traveling public.
